Nevado Sajama is a natural gem of Bolivia that captivates with its splendor and grandeur. With an altitude of 21,463 feet (6,542 meters), it is the highest peak in Bolivia and one of the most impressive snow-capped mountains in the Andes. Its imposing figure dominates the landscape, surrounded by arid plains and dazzling high-altitude lagoons. La Paz – Sajama Village (4200 meters / 13,780 feet above sea level). Departure from La Paz heading to Sajama Village, a 4 to 5-hour journey by vehicle at 4200 meters / 13,780 feet above sea level. Rest in an accommodation built with mud blocks and thatched roof, called “laka uhta,” with all the necessary comforts.
Sajama Village – Parinacota High Camp (5700 meters / 18,700 feet above sea level). Departure from Sajama Village towards Parinacota High Camp in a 4×4 vehicle, reaching 5700 meters / 18,700 feet above sea level. Passing through a wetland that feeds the region’s animals and crossing the deserts surrounding the “paya chatas,” we arrive to sleep in a refuge.
Parinacota High Camp – Summit (6320 meters / 20,735 feet above sea level). Departure from the high camp at 3:00 am towards the summit at 6320 meters / 20,735 feet above sea level, with a 7 to 8-hour hike on a relatively tranquil mountain with glaciers. Returning to the high camp, meeting the 4×4 vehicle, and returning to Sajama Village.
Sajama Village – Sajama Base Camp (4300 meters / 14,110 feet above sea level). Departure from Sajama Village towards Sajama Base Camp, starting with a 30-minute vehicle ride to a sector called “qu´ñuas,” followed by a 3 to 4-hour hike reaching 4300 meters / 14,110 feet above sea level. Resting in tents while admiring the imposing mountain.
Sajama Base Camp – High Camp (5700 meters / 18,700 feet above sea level). Departure from the base camp towards the high camp with a 5-hour hike, reaching 5700 meters / 18,700 feet above sea level. Admiring the impressive view of the “paya chatas” or “hermanos” volcanoes, and sleeping in tents.
High Camp – Sajama Summit (6548 meters / 21,478 feet above sea level). Departure from the high camp at 3:00 am with a 7 to 8-hour hike on a glacier, a long march reaching 6548 meters / 21,478 feet above sea level, the highest mountain in Bolivia. Returning to the base camp to rest in tents.
Base Camp – La Paz. Departure from the base camp towards “quíñuas,” a 2 to 3-hour hike where the vehicles will meet for the return to La Paz, approximately 4:00 hours journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

No previous mountain climbing experience is necessary. With good communication and a suitable program, anyone can engage in mountain climbing. However, prior experience can be beneficial.

Cardiovascular training is required, such as running, walking, cycling, and swimming, along with good acclimatization.
